After the last one has been hung, a silence hangs over the crowd. The same people who had been screaming "Kill him! Kill him!", are the same ones who are in utter shock. Moments after the man died his innocence was proven, and could've walked free. If in that moment, the hangman would've slowly released, he might have been saved.
Collapsing under public pressure, the judge went with the majority. It boiled down he could've saved this man, but he wanted to please the public. It would look good on his record. Now, this episode had ruined him, he had killed an innocent man, and his blood is now spilt on his hands.
Just after the hanging the sky grew dark and an eerie cold wind blew throughout the crowd now struck with grief. What have they done, they too have killed an innocent man.
Soon after, there was a mighty storm, lightening stuck a house and burned the city to the ground. Everyone there that day was killed in the great fire. Not one was spared. The only survivor was a lonely man who coward in the corner. The man who proved the innocence for that man they killed.
These words he uttered under his breath....
"I caught them plotting murder, but now the tide has turned. I'll heal my bones upon your houses burning."
